Vehicle HighlightsThe 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser should be unchanged. This SUV is based on the 4Runner, but it has styling inspired by Toyota's 1960s-era Land Cruisers. FJ seats five and has two main doors, two rear-hinged rear access doors, and no pillar between. A swing-out cargo door has opening glass and a mount for the spare tire. FJ should come with rear-wheel drive or with 4-wheel drive. The only engine should be a 239-hp 4.0-liter V6. Automatic transmission should be standard. The 4WD version will likely also be available with manual transmission. Two 4WD systems should return. Both have a low-range gear for off-roading, but only the 4WD system used with the manual transmission can be left engaged on dry pavement. Maximum towing capacity should be unchanged at 5000 lb. Rear-drive FJs should include a limited-slip rear differential. A locking rear differential should be standard with manual transmission and 4WD, optional otherwise. Available safety features should include ABS, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. An off-road traction-control system will likely be available on 4WD models. Optional equipment will likely include a rearview camera and rear-obstacle detection. This report is based on evaluations of the 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
